Union-Tehama Lodge No. 3

ABOUT UT3

Union-Tehama's roots actually go deep into a New England background. Its first charter was granted on January 31, 1849, by the Grand Lodge of Connecticut, on recommendation of Hiram Lodge No. 1 of New Haven, which boasts of being the oldest Lodge in the United States.

Sacramento 1850

When the Grand Lodge of California opened for the first time, on April 19, 1850, it recognized California Lodge No. 13 (now California Lodge No. 1), Western Star Lodge No. 98 (now Western Star Lodge No. 2), and Connecticut Lodge No. 75 (now Union-Tehama Lodge No. 3) as being legally constituted and chartered Lodges of Free and Accepted Masons.

Representatives of these Lodges were then duly authorized and qualified to organize and constitute a Grand Lodge of the State of California.

The name "Tehama" is a word of Native-American origin, and it means "high water, low land" in reference to the overflowing of the Sacramento River.

WHAT IS MASONRY

Brotherly Love

Masonry (also known as Freemasonry) is the world's first and largest fraternal organization. It is a brotherhood of like-minded men who genuinely care about each other. We develop lifelong friendships with fellow Masons and their families, and are welcomed at Masonic lodges throughout the United States and the world.

OUR MISSION

Relief

The mission of our Lodge is to foster personal growth and improve the lives of others.

Masonry is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to help make the world a better place. Through our culture of philanthropy, we make a profound difference for our brothers, our families, our communities, and our future

OUR MEMBERS

Truth

Our Lodge represents the entire spectrum of Californians. Admission to our lodge is open to men of good character and faith, regardless of their race, color, religious beliefs, political views, sexual orientation, physical ability, citizenship or national origin.

Through our universal brotherhood, our members learn to be better husbands, better fathers, better brothers, and better citizens.
