Online Supplement ( July )
Publishing Schedule
The regular issue of the NC MASON magazine is scheduled for the 15th of the month in the middle of each quarter. As the need determines, we will publish an "Online Supplement" in the months between the regular issues.
- Q1(Winter): February 15
- Q2(Spring): May 15
- Q3(Summer): August 15
- Q4(Fall): November 15
Subscription Options
Each member is able to individually select their option for how they wish to receive their copy of the NC Mason Magazine.
OPTION 1: Online Digital Magazine ( Most Cost Effective )
All members with an email on file in Grandview will be notified when a new issue is available. There will also be social media posts and links on the Grand Lodge website to this page, which will always provide the link to the most current issue.
OPTION 2: Blue Lodge Pickup ( Significant Savings )
A bundle of magazines will be mailed to your lodge. If you attend your regular stated meeting OR have a brother that lives nearby that can pick up a copy for you, this is preferred over direct mail.
OPTION 3: Direct Mail
If you want a physicl copy and live out of state or are otherwise unable to get a copy from your lodge, we are happy to put you on the direct mailing list. Please log in to Grandview to change your preferences or contact the editor for assistance.
NOTE: The "Online Supplement" will not be available in print, however, it is easy to print yourself if needed.
Lodge Distribution Guide
Each quarter, a bundle of magazines will be mailed to the lodge's default "Mailing Address" as listed in GrandView. To have the bundle sent to the lodge's physical address, the secretary's home address, or the address of a designated brother appointed by the lodge, please contact the NC Mason Editor.
Objectives and Goals
- Ensure member preferences are accommodated with a flexible distribution solution.
- Provide lodges with a versatile tool for membership engagement and outreach.
- Greatly reduce printing and shipping costs to align with our current budget.
What NOT to do with the bundle of magazines
- Do not mail the magazines to your members
- Do not make distribution solely the secretary's responsibility
Suggestions on how to distribute the magazines
- Communication: In your meeting reminders, inform members that the latest issue of the NC Mason is avilable and encourage them to attend the next stated meeting to pick up their copy.
- Easy Access: Place the stack of magazines in a convenient location, such as next to the meeting register, where members can easily pick them up.
- Hand Deliver: Encourage attending members to collect and distribute copies to non-attending members who live nearby.
- Newer Members: Make sure that your EA's and FC's get a copy. They may not be able to attend the regular stated meetings and may not be on the email list yet.
- Older Members: Use the magazine as an opportunity to visit with our older brothers who cannot attend meetings.
- Extra Copies: After ensuring all members have received their copies, consider giving copies to potential reinstatements and interested non-masons.
- Electronic Version: Encourage members to opt-in for the online version and then adjust the next issues bundle quantity accordingly
Article Submission Guide
The submission deadline for new articles is 60-days before the publication date of the next issue. This lead time is essential for editing, publication creation, review, printing and mailing.
- Q1(Winter): December 15
- Q2(Spring): March 15
- Q3(Summer): June 15
- Q4(Fall): September 15
Article Genre ( Life Style )
The above submission deadlines apply only to "reserved inclusion" in the regular issues of the NC MASON. It is preferred that most articles submitted be Timeless, meaning they don't expire. This allows flexibility to move articles between issues and plan several issues in advance. If an article is event-based and/or is time-sensetive, it is best to post it on Grand Lodge social media or include it in an "Online Supplement" instead of a regular issue.
Article Word Count Limits
The word counts below account for 20-25% of the page(s) space being graphics/photos. Subtract from the word count to accommodate more or less images in your article.
- 1/2 page (column): less than 200 words
- 1 page: less than 400 words
- 2 page (spread): less than 800 words
